Postcards from Phi Phi!

After great deliberation over our honeymoon destination, my husband and I finally agreed upon Thailand. And, the deciding factor was The Phi Phi Islands. After looking at the photographs, both of us were convinced that Phi Phi would be our perfect Vitamin Sea fix post a crazy wedding.

Leaving you with some postcards from our trip; after all it is a postcard-perfect destination!

The Hungry Trotter Travel Hacks:

  1. The nearest airport for The Phi Phi Islands is either Krabi or Phuket. From Krabi airport you can take a bus to Klong Jilard Pier (THB 90 or $3). The ferry has fixed timings and the last ferry is at 3pm; hence plan your travel accordingly. The ferry slots in all probability will be available and can be booked on the spot. It costs around THB 700 ($20) per person for a two way trip. A speedboat transfer is more expensive and costs around THB 1800 ($52) one way. The ferry ride to Tonsai Pier, Phi Phi Don is about 1.5 hours.
  1. Depending upon where your hotel is located (most of the 5 star properties are not at Tonsai Bay where you arrive) you will have to take a long tail boat to your hotel. You can talk to independent boat operators at Tonsai Pier and bargain for a good deal. We were put up at the Holiday Inn Resort and we paid THB 1000 ($29) for our boat ride.
  1. Staying at one of these properties means you’re restricted to the hotel’s private beach for the duration of your trip. Most of the restaurants and bars are located at Tonsai Bay or Loh Dalum Bay which would be a 30-45 minutes boat ride away.
  1. Phi Phi Don is the largest and the highest populated island, followed by Phi Phi Lae Islands where you can go for a day trip. We took this island tour and visited the famous Maya Bay, Loh Samah Bay and the Viking Caves. The other islands that can be visited are Bamboo Island and Mosquito Island. Living at Phi Phi Don lets you get to these islands before they get too crowded with the tourists arriving from Krabi and Phuket.
  2. Most island hopping tours include snorkelling and hence you needn’t book a snorkelling trip separately. Scuba Diving is a must! I, unfortunately, owing to my aquaphobia couldn’t muster up the courage for it. My husband did it and said it was the most exhilirating experience ever!

Which is a postcard-pretty beach that you have visited?
